I have officially ended my "break." At the beginning of the summer, I decided to stop my running effort in light of the hot, humid, sticky, and oppressive summer heat that is North Carolina from May to August-ish. That decision turned out to be wise, as this summer has not seen much rain but lots of triple-digit days. With just a few days left before the first day of fall, early mornings are now in the 60s somewhat consistently, and I told myself when the mornings or evenings got cool enough, I would start the running program over again.
So here I am. In my mind, I am committed. Now, to action. I have also decided to attempt P90X. I am determined to get in shape for many reasons. First and foremost, for my health. Secondly, for my vanity. Thirdly, for my black belt. There are several things I have envisioned myself doing with regard to Tae Kwon Do, and since I started in 2007, I have yet to see myself making all those visions a personal reality.
A co-worker recently talked about accountability, as did my "new" trainer at the gym. (My old one moved to FL, so I met with his recommended replacement a few times to discuss a plan and schedule for getting healthy.) I didn't much like her, but I decided to come away with the message more so than my opinion of her, and what I took from the experience was set a goal and commit to it. Getting in shape isn't supposed to be fun--that's why it's called a work-out. I enjoy the high after working out and the benefits of doing it, so I'm going to do my best not to sell myself short by letting myself off the hook.
So here's to finishing P90X before Christmas. 90 days from today = December 20.
